Sonos Installation & Design

Designed for the Home.
Finished in One Project.

SetupTeam approaches these installations as whole-home audio projects rather than room-by-room additions. That means a zone plan drawn before any hardware is ordered, product selection matched to room size and use, outdoor zones accounted for from the start, and Control4 integration scoped alongside the Sonos configuration if automation is already running. Where the network needs preparation before Sonos can be stable across a large home, we include Wi-Fi and network work in the same project scope.

Properties here span three distinct eras of construction — older homes from the 1970s–80s with plaster or early drywall, mid-period Glen Abbey builds from the 1990s–2000s, and newer custom builds from the last decade. Each has different wall construction, cable routing feasibility, and Wi-Fi penetration characteristics. We assess the property type before recommending zone count or installation approach.

Pool houses and detached cabanas are common on larger properties. Connecting an outbuilding Sonos zone reliably requires wired Cat6 — a Wi-Fi bridge to a pool house introduces the kind of intermittent dropout that makes the zone feel unreliable. We run the cable during construction or route it in conduit on finished properties.

Many properties already have Control4 running lighting, HVAC, and security. Adding Sonos as a separate system when C4 is already in place is the wrong approach — we configure the Sonos driver inside Control4 so volume, grouping, and source switching are all available from the existing panels and remotes.

Buyers at this level typically want the system designed correctly once rather than expanded piecemeal. We plan the full zone layout before the first installation day — product selection, Amp count, cable routing, network segmentation — so the result is stable and complete rather than a first phase that needs three more.

Full System Design & Installation

Zone layout drawn to the floor plan — main floor, upper level, primary suite, home office, basement, and any outbuildings. Product matched to room size: Era 100 for smaller rooms, Era 300 where spatial audio is relevant, Sonos Amp for in-ceiling architectural zones. Network segmentation confirmed before installation so the system does not need rework when a third zone is added six months later. Typical scope: 6–10 zones across two to three levels plus outdoor.

Control4 + Sonos Integration

For homes already running Control4 — lighting, HVAC, shading, security — Sonos is added as a fully integrated audio layer rather than a standalone app. Sonos driver configured inside Control4, zone naming standardized across both systems, volume and source switching accessible from existing C4 panels, remotes, and the mobile interface. TV audio switching verified. This is the most common Oakville request on homes over 4,000 sq ft. See Control4 Installation in Oakville.

Outdoor & Pool Zone Audio

Pool deck, cabana, covered terrace, and backyard zones — supplied, positioned, and wired into the main system. Era 100 and Era 300 for exposed outdoor placement within their rated operating range; Sonos Port-based architectural landscape speakers for permanent outdoor installations requiring full seasonal durability. Pool house and detached cabana zones require wired Cat6 from the main residence — we route cable during construction or in conduit on finished homes. Outdoor zones fully integrated into the main app and C4 interface.

Architectural In-Ceiling Zones

Kitchen, dining room, primary bathroom, and basement bar zones built on Sonos Amp with in-ceiling or in-wall architectural speakers — supplied and installed. For renovations with walls open, we coordinate the rough-in with the general contractor and return for finish install after drywall. For finished homes, we assess routing feasibility and present options before committing to any wall work. In-ceiling zones integrated with Oakville structured wiring and pre-wire where applicable.

What We Cover

What a
Complete Project Includes

Most full-home installs span one to two visits depending on scope. Pre-wire projects add a third stage.

Zone Plan Before Hardware

Floor plan marked with zone locations, Amp positions, cable routes, and switch placement before any product is ordered. Changes at planning stage cost nothing.

Product Selection by Room

Era 100, Era 300, Amp zones, and portable speakers matched to room size, ceiling height, and use case — not specified generically across the whole system.

Surround Sound Configuration

Arc Ultra with Sub and Era 300 rears in the main living room or dedicated cinema. Placement geometry confirmed before mounting — incorrect Era 300 positioning is the most common surround install error.

Pool House & Outbuilding Connectivity

Wired Cat6 backhaul from main residence to pool house or cabana. Outbuilding zone behaves like any indoor room — no Wi-Fi bridge, no intermittent dropout.

Network Preparation

Large homes with 50+ networked devices sometimes need DHCP expansion and IP reservation before Sonos is stable across all zones. Addressed before installation, not after.

Home Cinema Integration

Sonos integrated with a dedicated cinema room — projection, screen, acoustic treatment, and audio all scoped together. See Home Cinema Installation Oakville.

Questions We Hear
on Estate-Scale Projects

We draw the zone layout into the floor plan before booking installation. Zone count, product selection per room, Amp locations, cable routes, and network segmentation are all confirmed on paper first. For homes over 5,000 sq ft this planning stage prevents the common failure mode — a system that works for the first four zones and becomes unstable when more are added later.
Yes — this is exactly how we approach it. The Sonos driver is configured inside Control4, zone naming is standardized across both platforms, and audio control is available from existing C4 panels, remotes, and the mobile interface. You do not end up with two separate apps for audio. See Control4 Installation in Oakville.
Yes — with wired Cat6 backhaul. A Wi-Fi bridge to an outbuilding introduces the intermittent connectivity that makes the zone feel unreliable. We run Cat6 from the main residence to the pool house during construction or route it in conduit on finished homes. The outdoor zone is then as stable as any room inside the house.
We supply everything as an authorized Sonos Gold Dealer — Arc Ultra, Arc, Sub, Era 100, Era 300, Sonos Amp, Port. For large projects, hardware is ordered to the confirmed zone plan and delivered to the home. Warranty is handled through us.
Era 100 and Era 300 are rated for outdoor use but not designed for permanent unprotected installation through a Canadian winter. For a pool deck or cabana that will be exposed year-round, an architectural landscape speaker system driven by Sonos Port is the more durable solution. We discuss the specific installation environment before recommending product.
Yes — cinema audio and whole-home Sonos can share infrastructure where appropriate, or be kept as separate systems depending on the setup. See Home Cinema Installation Oakville for the full scope.
Most large detached homes we work on in this area run 6–10 zones: main floor open plan, primary suite, upstairs landing or hallway, home office, basement, and outdoor zones. Larger homes with pool houses and multiple outbuildings can reach 12–14. We map it to the specific floor plan rather than estimating from square footage alone.
Yes — TV mounting across multiple rooms is coordinated as part of the same project. See TV Wall Mounting Oakville.
Multi-zone projects with hardware supply are quoted by scope once the zone plan is confirmed. See Pricing for baseline expectations.
Yes — all of Oakville including Glen Abbey, Bronte Creek, Lorne Park, Old Oakville, Bronte Village, and Rural Oakville are within our regular service area.
