UniFi Protect is a surveillance application that runs on the UniFi OS console, the same device that manages your network. It is not a separate platform, a cloud service, or a monitoring subscription. Cameras connect over PoE Cat6, and footage stores locally on the console or a connected UNVR.
The app gives you remote access from anywhere without a recurring fee for core functionality. Because Protect lives inside the same ecosystem as your network and access control, a door event can surface a camera view. You can cross-reference a network alert with footage. What does a UniFi Protect PTZ camera capture?
This is a real UniFi G6 PTZ clip from a SetupTeam install: a pan-tilt-zoom camera tracking a person across an elevated backyard deck and the grounds below. One PTZ camera covers a wide outdoor area from a single mounting point and can follow movement instead of holding one fixed frame.
That is why mounting height and sightlines matter so much on a UniFi Protect camera installation. Footage like this records locally to your UniFi OS console or UNVR, and you review it in the UniFi Protect app. PTZ coverage works best paired with fixed cameras on the entry points that always matter. It adds reach over open ground; it does not replace them.

What does UniFi Access installation involve?
UniFi Access is the door-control application in the UniFi OS family. It manages entry points such as front doors, garages, secondary structures, and gates, using the same console that runs your network and cameras. There is no separate app, no separate system, and no separate login.
We install Access Hubs, door readers (NFC, PIN, and mobile app unlock), and intercoms. Each reader integrates with UniFi Protect so you can visually confirm who is at the door before granting access, right in the app.

Installation adapts to the property, not the other way around.

Homes in the area vary widely in construction type, layout, and cable routing complexity, so coverage planning and cable routing start from the actual floor plan, not a standard-configuration template. A UniFi deployment in a Forest Hill detached home is a different job than one in a Yorkville condo or a Leaside semi with plaster walls.

Detached homes
Multi-floor coverage typically requires two to four access points with wired Cat6 backhaul. Rack and NVR placement is most often the basement mechanical room. Outdoor cameras mount at eaves and soffits.
Century homes
Plaster walls and older construction require careful routing. We plan concealed cable paths and use existing chases where available, to keep the install clean in character properties.
Condos
Suite walls and riser access constrain cable routing. Most condo deployments use one to two access points with surface-mount or ceiling-mount configurations. We work within the building’s restrictions.
Outdoor coverage
Patios, backyards, and driveways require weather-rated outdoor APs and PoE camera drops. We plan outdoor coverage as part of the same initial cable run, not as an afterthought.
Should a new UniFi build use Wi-Fi 7, or stay on Wi-Fi 6?
Most new builds should use the U7 generation: U7 Pro in the standard access point slot, U7 Pro Max where a zone needs eight spatial streams and 6 GHz capacity. The price gap over U6 Pro is small, and it is the generation your devices already ship with.
That last point is the practical one. Apple shipped Wi-Fi 7 in the iPhone 16 line, with the iPhone 15 Pro and the M4 MacBook and iPad range on Wi-Fi 6E, Samsung shipped it across the Galaxy S24 and S25 generations, and most premium laptops sold from late 2024 onward include it.
Inside the property, the U7 Pro adds the 6 GHz band, which is uncongested in almost every residential neighbourhood and carries gigabit-plus throughput at short range. The U7 Pro Max adds a dedicated spectral scanning radio for the busiest zones.
U6 Pro still has a place: a basement gym access point serving a few machines, or a hallway carrying mostly phone traffic. We mix generations where it makes sense rather than defaulting to the newest part.
The wired backhaul does not change either way. Cat6 to each access point is the same plan on both generations, so moving from U6 Pro to U7 Pro later is a hardware swap on cable that is already in the wall.
How much does a UniFi installation cost in Toronto?
A UniFi installation runs from roughly $1,500 for a condo on a single gateway and one access point to $40,000-plus for an estate property with a full camera grid. What moves the number is the size of the building, how much cable the job requires, and how many access points and cameras the property needs.
$1,500 – $3,500
A UDR7 or Cloud Gateway Ultra with one U7 Pro access point, the carrier router moved to bridge mode, and VLAN configuration. Little or no new cable.
$4,500 – $9,500
A Cloud Gateway Ultra or UDM Pro, a Lite-8 or Lite-16 PoE switch, and three to four U7 Pro access points on fresh Cat6 runs. The most common residential scope.
$18,000 – $40,000+
A UDM Pro Max, a 24- or 48-port PoE switch, six to twelve indoor and outdoor access points, and a Protect camera grid. Long runs and outbuildings drive the upper end.
We price upgrades to an existing Ubiquiti network differently. Swapping U6 Pro access points for U7 Pro on cable that is already in place typically runs $600 to $1,200 per access point, depending on access and ceiling work.
