Movies and music fill the room instead of thinning out at the edges, where a smaller ceiling speaker starts to fade. Add a Sonos Sub 4 later for even more low end — it’s documented to pair with a Sonos Amp.

What does it sound like in a GTA great room?
In an open-concept main floor, the 8-inch pair fills the kitchen, dining and living space evenly from one system, so the TV, the conversation at the island and the music playing don’t compete the way they do with a smaller ceiling speaker or a single soundbar aimed at one end of the room. The larger driver and deeper bass carry across the whole floor plan instead of thinning out toward the far end of the room.
Picture a basement rec room with a nine-foot ceiling and no room for floor-standing speakers: two 8-inch speakers overhead, paired to a single Amp, cover movie night, a home gym corner and a game table without a single speaker on the floor to trip over.

How do we cover a large or open-concept room?
Mapping the open floor plan
We walk the room with you and mark speaker locations for even coverage across the actual floor plan — not a generic center-of-room guess, which matters more once a room opens onto a kitchen or dining area than it does in a small room.
Long wire runs across joists
We run new speaker wire from the Amp location to each ceiling position, working around joists, insulation and any existing wiring already in the cavity — often a longer run than a single small room needs.
Cutting to the supplied template
The 8-inch speaker needs a 10.125-inch ceiling cutout — larger than the 6-inch model’s — cut to the supplied template in drywall, with the edge finished cleanly. If the ceiling is a suspended or drop-tile system, we confirm the right mounting approach on site before quoting.
Mounting the speakers and placing the Amp
The Roto-Lock mounting system locks each speaker into its cutout, the magnetic grille goes on last in white or a paintable finish, and the Sonos Amp goes in a closet, cabinet or equipment rack near a network connection, wired to both speakers.
Tuning for volume and reach
Once the pair is connected, we run Trueplay so the Amp adjusts the sound for your room’s size, construction and furnishings, matching the coverage to a larger or more open space.
What a great room looks like when we leave
Two flush grilles in the ceiling, an Amp in whatever cabinet or closet you chose, and a room that plays through the same Sonos app as the rest of your house.
What does this set cost, installed?
The set itself is $2,278. Sonos installation — the wiring, cut-ins and mounting — is quoted separately, after photos or a short site visit, because every ceiling and every run of wire is different.
Delivery anywhere in the GTA is free. Buy $1,500 or more of Sonos gear in one order and app setup — unboxing, Wi-Fi, room grouping and Trueplay tuning — is included at no charge; this set alone clears that threshold. Cross $3,000 in the same order and you also get a $150 installation credit, valid for 12 months, which applies toward the cut-in and mounting work below.
Free app setup covers the Amp and the app side only — it does not include cutting the ceiling, running wire, or mounting the speakers. That labour is quoted after we see the room, and it comes at 25% off our standard $200 minimum whenever the Sonos gear is bought through us.
Can one Amp cover a great room and the space next to it?
If you already have Sonos speakers, soundbars or an Amp anywhere in the house, this set joins them in the same Sonos app — one app, one place to group rooms and control volume. If you’re running a Sonos Amp already and want to add speakers to it, one Amp can power up to three pairs of Sonos Architectural speakers (six speakers total) wired in parallel, which is how we handle a great room and an adjoining space on a single amplifier where the layout allows it. Want more low end in that same zone? A Sonos Sub 4 pairs with a Sonos Amp for deeper bass.
We haven’t found a documented case for pairing this set with non-Sonos smart-home or third-party ceiling speaker systems, so we don’t promise that — if your home runs a different platform, tell us during the estimate and we’ll confirm what’s possible before you buy anything.
If your home already runs on Control4 installation, our installers coordinate the wiring and scheduling so this ceiling audio goes in alongside your existing automation, rather than as a separate, disconnected project.
